I’d like to plug the most recent fanpost by Dou.. I like the spirit. My take is the cubs have had some fight this year, but it’s been for the last pitch of the WS instead of for the 50,000 pitches that come before it… not seeing the trees for the forest.
Time to yank Gregg. Bad pitching breeds bad pitching. Let’s get him out now.
BTW.. I wrote this before Cedeno's HR.. Lou needs a quicker trigger.
Bad pitching… yes.. but also bad managing. he should know Gregg’s tendencies by now.. dude’s either got or not. AFter two conecutive walks, he doesn’t have it.
take a look at his lines. I think most sane people would agree last year was just plain bad. His numbers are not that much better this year. He’s hitting .267 instead of .257, and his OBP is a little higher, but unless he just gets blazing hot to close out the year, he certainly didn’t prove last years numbers were some ridiculous fluke
and he has little speed, so you really can’t use him at the only spot where that OBP is truly effective. He’d better not be our leadoff hitter next year
It was pretty mellow in the GTs during the Mets debacles, too. I guess a lot of people have cashed this season in, and are looking forward to calling for Cutler to be benched.
Hell, I need you. I’m a mess without ya. I miss you so damn much. I miss being with you. I miss being near you! I miss your laugh! I miss – I miss your scent. I miss your musk. When this all gets sorted out, I think you and me should get an apartment together.
Just checking in after a spate of meetings and "work"! WORK! (Where's Maynard C. Krebbs when you need him?)
Looks like you all did a great job bringing home the “W”. I just noted that the Cubs added insult to injury today. With this loss, the Pirates were officially eliminated from the NL Wild Card race.
But I have to ask, How is Gregg not in Lou’s doghouse?
Miles gets to play and Fox does not on sub day. Yet Gregg is still run out there.
I don’t think there is to big of a lead to pitch Gregg.
I would rather see Heilman at this point.
if the Cubs played the Pirates every game this year, they would be 133-29

DisCUBbobulated - September 9, 2009
Holy crap Kevin Gregg is a terrible pitcher
nice acquisition Hendry
Illicat - September 9, 2009
Only one more month
Then he’ll be someone else’s problem
Jody Jody Davis - September 9, 2009
He didn't give up nearly as many HR last year (3),
But he did have 9 blown saves.
Yeah, he sucked last year too.
Urbanfury - September 9, 2009
and those 9 blown saves were before he lost the closer's gig
in Mid August. In other words, he could have had a lot more
Illicat - September 9, 2009
Closer Capps on for Pirates.
Koyie at the plate.
daver - September 9, 2009

BleedsbluinMI - September 9, 2009

Man, Milwaukee is just going down without any fight whatsoever!!
They truly are STL bitches.
Itchy - September 9, 2009
It's September
What did you expect the Brewers to do?
Craig in South Bend - September 9, 2009
Also shocking - Wainwright pitching a shutout
Funny how much smarter LaRussa looks when Carpenter and Wainwright aren’t injured.
Jody Jody Davis - September 9, 2009
Miles is on deck
WTF?
cwpettis - September 9, 2009
lololololololol
AHHHHHHHHHHHHHHahahahahahahahahaha
Craig in South Bend - September 9, 2009
apparently it's empty the outhouse day for Lou
Gregg, then Miles
Illicat - September 9, 2009
WHY?!
Urbanfury - September 9, 2009
Shut him down.
He’s using up innings that would be better served by pitchers that might be able to help us this year and next.
Clark Addison - September 9, 2009
Hill Ks, one out.
daver - September 9, 2009
NOOOOOOOOO!
Jody Jody Davis - September 9, 2009
And now Aaron Miles.

We’ve been Aaroned

another quote

LT - September 9, 2009

Clutch16 - September 9, 2009
"Miles checking in hitting .174." ~ Pat Hughes
daver - September 9, 2009
I'm shocked it's that high
Illicat - September 9, 2009
Is his OPS still over .450?
Jody Jody Davis - September 9, 2009
Miles and Gregg
our two most useless roster fillers
Clark Addison - September 9, 2009
Again
how could anyone think that Miles or Gregg wouldn’t get playing time now when Captain Naptime is still our manager?
Craig in South Bend - September 9, 2009
He's truly sticking to his moronic guns
Illicat - September 9, 2009
Moronic is right!!
Itchy - September 9, 2009
Miles
Surprise! Miles gets a hit!!!!
KedzieKid - September 9, 2009
Wow - it must really suck to be Jake Fox right about now
when even Miles gets into the game before you do…
ballhawk - September 9, 2009
apparently Fox has what? Played too well this season
did he bone Lou’s wife?
Illicat - September 9, 2009
Holy crap! Base hit for Miles!
cwpettis - September 9, 2009
No way
Itchy - September 9, 2009

santoswoodenlegs - September 9, 2009

Oh, plague. Nevermind.
Clutch16 - September 9, 2009
That Miles can rake!
Now he can go start another 0 for 19.
DKT - September 9, 2009
"Miles, a rare single for him." - Pirates announcers
Bill Potter - September 9, 2009
You know you suck
when you get owned by the Pirates’ announcers
Craig in South Bend - September 9, 2009
probably not that rare for a .174 hiter
to get a rare single against the Pirates
LT - September 9, 2009
He must be coming out of his slump!
santoswoodenlegs - September 9, 2009
odds on this getting him a start tomorrow?
Illicat - September 9, 2009
99% chance of bullshit
which means there’s a 1% chance Miles sits tomorrow
Craig in South Bend - September 9, 2009
Cubs are off tomorrow,
So I’m okay with him starting.
Urbanfury - September 9, 2009
Now you've got me picturing Miles standing on an empty field
Shouting “Hello? Where is everyone?”
Jody Jody Davis - September 9, 2009
Wow I go out to pick up lunch
Gregg gives up 3 runs and Miles is batting. Ok he got a hit but I promise not to leave for the rest of the game

for the 9th? i guess it has become a save situation so we may see marmol, instead…

You're confusing him with Berkman.
santoswoodenlegs - September 9, 2009

after the Miles hit?
Did he ask for the ball?
hokie316 - September 9, 2009
Everyone in the Cubs dugout fell down when he reached first base.l
daver - September 9, 2009
HA!
santoswoodenlegs - September 9, 2009
Not sure, but I think he was untucking his jersey as he ran down to first...
ballhawk - September 9, 2009
Going through the game log,
He had TWO RBI against the Cardinals. How in the hell did that happen?
Urbanfury - September 9, 2009
Marmol Ks McCutchen! Two outs!
daver - September 9, 2009
two away!
KedzieKid - September 9, 2009
Y'know, I want to like Dome
but unless he gets really hot the final two weeks of the season. He really hasn’t been all that much better than he was last year.
I think the jury is in on him, and he’s just not that good
Illicat - September 9, 2009
Really?
daver - September 9, 2009
yes, really
take a look at his lines. I think most sane people would agree last year was just plain bad. His numbers are not that much better this year. He’s hitting .267 instead of .257, and his OBP is a little higher, but unless he just gets blazing hot to close out the year, he certainly didn’t prove last years numbers were some ridiculous fluke
Illicat - September 9, 2009
This year has been way more consistent, even if the number aren't as high as we'd like to see
BleedsbluinMI - September 9, 2009
consistently mediocre is still mediocre
he doesn’t do anything exceptionally well.
Illicat - September 9, 2009
He ended last season with a .738 OPS.
He’s currently OPSing .820. So I say again…really?
daver - September 9, 2009
instead of just copying and pasting I'll just say again
yes really
Illicat - September 9, 2009
He has a .378 OBP.
I’d say that’s pretty exceptional.
daver - September 9, 2009
yet he's going to strikeout over 100 times
and he has little speed, so you really can’t use him at the only spot where that OBP is truly effective. He’d better not be our leadoff hitter next year
Illicat - September 9, 2009
When he was our leadoff hitter....
we were winning games.
santoswoodenlegs - September 9, 2009
seems like there are other larger problems that need addressing, I'm ok w/ Dome leadin off
BleedsbluinMI - September 9, 2009
Can't argue with that
I mean, he’ll still find a way to do so, but you really can’t.
Craig in South Bend - September 9, 2009
Or what?
sue369 - September 9, 2009
or we'll have problems scoring runs again
Illicat - September 9, 2009
weren't we scoring MORE runs
when he was leading off?

yes.

Allie - September 9, 2009
Ah, well that was nice of you.
I’m sure she appreciated your help.
sue369 - September 9, 2009
Make no mistake, he's better than our other choices this season
but being the best choice on a decidedly mediocre team doesn’t get me all that excited.
I’d rather see better options coming into next season
Illicat - September 9, 2009
chances we land chone figgins?
Allie - September 9, 2009
I shall await your Fanpost.
daver - September 9, 2009
Name one.
santoswoodenlegs - September 9, 2009
Speed in the leadoff spot is overrated.
Kosuke’s a pretty smart baserunner, which is just as good. And OBP of any kind is effective at the top of the order.
daver - September 9, 2009
Are you high?
You sound like a mad man!
Craig in South Bend - September 9, 2009
He needs to convince his personal hitting coach to stick around for the full season, methinks.

Apparently, Lou should be fired for even letting Gregg or Miles play…sigh.
