... but there's a World Series game tonight. We interrupt Theo Epstein new to bring you actual baseball.

Kyle Lohse and Matt Harrison are the starting pitchers for Saturday night's Game 3. The Series has actually been pretty good so far, with two very close games decided in the late innings. Maybe we'll even get a seven-game Series out of this; there hasn't been one in nine years.

Full game details after the jump.

I hate The Cardinals

That is all

The Cardinals in the post-season

akin to a Miami Heat game. I have a hard time watching when the Birds are potentially ahead.

Yes, but it was fun to watch the Miami Heat lose and it'll be even better to watch the Cardinals lose if they do.
I thoroughly enjoyed

watching the Heat lose. But if the RedBirds are ahead, I’ll follow from my ’puter.

Strangely,

the Cardinals are less arrogant than the Heat. I hate ’em, hate ’em both, but the Heat was more of a this team must-be-stopped than the Cards. I still want the Rangers to win and the Cardinals to lose, though wish it was a Brewers-Rangers or Brewers-Tigers World Series.

I wish it was a Cubs and anyone else WS.

But yes, it was the entire world against Miami last year.

Miami

Gators will win the 2015 World Series though.

C'mon Rangers

Take advantage.

When are the Rangers

going to break out the Megazord and demolish the Cardinals?

At least Lohse

is throwing a lot of pitches.

A St. Louis TV Station ...

… sent a reporter to Texas for some pre-game interviews. The reporter cornered a family in the Rangers team store. The interview went as follows:

Reporter asks Dad: What do you think about the Rally Squirrel?
Dad: I’m not afraid of no squirrel
Reporter asks girl (about 7 years old): Who’s gonna win the World Series:
Girl: The Rangers
Reporter: And why do you think the Rangers will win the World Series?
Girl: Because I’m not Dumb …

I laughed out loud. Had to replay it for the family to enjoy too.

youtube worthy
I love the Rally Squirrel

but hate the Cardinals. The lil’ rascal was lucky. Being a quadruped, they don’t tackle and tazer ’em. Woulda been funny to see a whole platoon of cops huff and puff as they chase after it in vain.

Rather than "Rally Squirrel"

I prefer to think of it as “Curse of the Squirrel”

Just a rat with a bushy tail....
Bad call for the Cardinals.

I hope it doesn’t give them more of an advantage then it already has.

(In favor of the Cardinals)
any call in favor of STL

is inherently bad. Even if proper.

I couldn't agree with this statement more
How true, but it was not even close.

If that call is the one that gives them the series. Almost as bad as the 85 series, except that call lost the game and ultimately the series for the Cardinals. Of course if that is the karma that KC got would we want the Cardinals to win this series if we knew they would suck for the next 26 years?

Not watching

No idea how bad it was.

It was on par with the '85 call.

As far as the only one who thought he was safe was the umpire. The umps should have met and over-ruled him.

fair enough
When you see it you will see how bad a call it was.

Much like the call that sent the Pirates in their downhill spiral earlier this summer.

The umpiring for this series SUCKS!

Just like in 2009, perhaps they should bring in a new umpire team. Just so long as CB Buckner & Todd Tichenor aren’t on it.

When I saw that bad call, my first reaction was "Is that Don Denkinger Jr. umpiring first base?"
Spartans and Badgers have a helluva game going if this one gets boring

Spartans were down 14-0 now lead 16-14

Please lord have some sympathy on me

I don’t think I can take it if the stl cardinals and the packers win the championship in the same year.

Frickin Theriot

I dislike him intensely.

So anybody think Al is going to make another rant about replay needed after Holiday called safe?
You shouldn't need replay to see that I was a bad call.
it*
That Ranger offense can pull this off!
Let's Go Rangers

They show life and resilience. Maybe that call pissed them off.

Note

Lohse isn’t very good

Lohse is done.

Battle of the bullpens now.

Keep it up rangers!
Dang it

I wanted lohse to keep self-destructing, hopefully their bullpen can follow suit

Why swing first pitch there?
Get this runner on third in Texas.
Holiday denied that.
The ump owed that call to the rangers

They need to get a more competent crew.

No, you can't "makeup" a call then you have made two bad calls.

I hated that when I was a coach. Over a season blown calls should even out. It a short series though it can be huge.

I'm not a fan of that either, it was a tongue and cheek statement

I only reserve it for the cardinals, when they benefit from those situations.

Cards are gonna win the WS
That should not be said.

They are getting a lot of breaks though.

I think they're a better team than the Rangers

I don’t think they’re a better team than the Brewers or Phillies though and that didn’t stop them from winning those two series.

I love the fight of the Rangers

they won’t quit

Oh, for a gapper.
I apologize. Back in Sept I posted a pic that

read “Cards are done”. I was wrong. Sorry. I dunno about “destiny”…but the birdies are hot at the right time. YUK

Sorry, when you're the "away team"...you must capitalize. These guys got the same shot as this Rangers team

When is there

going to be mandatory HGH testing in MLB? Can’t come soon enough.

Why?

HGH does nothing to improve athletic performance.

Anything that makes you bigger and stronger improves performance
No, it doesn't

HGH does not make you stronger. It does not add muscle mass. That’s been proven beyond a doubt. It also isn’t clear that it even makes you bigger if you take it as an adult.

The only thing it might do is make you recover from injuries faster. But even that isn’t clear.

Or recover from workout sessions faster?

Let me put it like this, if it’s “been proven beyond a doubt” that the only thing HGH might do is “make you recover from injuries faster”…

Why would it need to be banned? Why wouldn’t (for an example) cortizone be banned as well, if that’s the standard?

“Beyond a doubt” is a pretty high bar.

I said this in 2006 and I'll say it again in 2011....

It should be a conflict of interest having Buck and McCarver announce the games on FOX. The fellation of Pujols, LaRussa, etc. by these two Cardinals homers is beyond reproach.

Even more amazing & impressive is how Vin Scully did those NBC games including the '88 WS & didn't show Dodger bias.

IMHO Scully is the best baseball broadcaster in the game.

Yeah, I hear he's pretty good

I mean, he’s no Jack Buck or Hawk Harrelson. (please note the sarcasm font)

I'd rather listen to Ozzy Osbourne broadcast a game than Hawk Harrelson.

It’s pretty bad when they’ve got to put English subtitles on TV for people who speak…English.

Judas Priest at the Joint tomorrow night!!!

\m/RAISE THE HORN!!!!! \m/

maybe that should be horns

\m/ \m/

I'm glad that McCarver is okay health-wise, but I wish that his doctor would have put him on some bed rest so he'd miss the Series and Terry Francona would take over.

Anyone but McCarver.

Michigan St. beats Wisconsin 37-31 in one of the wackier endings you will ever see

Be sure and catch the replay.

Oh, and Erin Andrews is quite lovely this evening.

When isn't Erin Andrews lovely? I'm just saying. ;-)
Tight sweater? Headlights on? Details, man!
It's cold in East Lansing

and she has a wool coat on that just really works for her. Nothing else. Beautiful.

just a wool coat - nothing else?
Maybe it's just me, but if Deion Sanders was buzzing around my living room I'd get the can of Raid.
I would do that if Gary Busey was buzzing around my living room.
Did you ever feel like God hates the Cubs?

2003. Okay, no need to discuss that.
2004. Boston wins the World Series. Yay, Boston! Next year is our turn, right? Wrong.
2005. The White Sox win the World Series. The freakin’ White Sox.
2006. As if that wasn’t bad enough, the Cardinals win the World Series. Grr.
2007. Okay, so 1 team breaks a so-called “curse” & our 2 biggest rivals win a ring. In
2007, who wins the World Series? The freakin’ Red Sox. Again.
2008. The Phillies win. This one wasn’t so bad, but my Cubs…nevermind.
2009. The freakin’ Yankees win. Again.
2010. The Giants win their first World Series as the San Francisco Giants.
2011. Okay, God. So we got Theo and Jed now and if we get a new manager, that’d be
awesome. But why oh why does a team like St. Louis get all of the breaks?

don't forget

the D-Bags won 1 in year 4 of their existence
the Marlins have won 2 (in their first 11 years)

Optimus Prime: Freedom is the right for all sentient beings

God: There is no salvation except through me

Cubs management

for many years hated working hard enough to succeed.

I think you can argue with the success record.

You can’t say they didn’t work hard.

This is why I don't believe that there is a Cubs "curse"

First of all, I don’t believe in curses. I think it’s a bunch of garbage. Second of all, the playoff games and series in which the Cubs lost, they had opportunities to win them but did not. In 1984, I think if Frey started Sutcliffe in Game 4 and saved Trout for Game 5, they might’ve beaten San Diego. In 1989, I believe the Giants were the better team. In 1998, the Braves were better than the Cubs. In 2003, the Cubs lost Game 6, not Bartman. And they had another game to win the next night which they did not. In 2007, the Diamondbacks were better. In 2008, I thought that was the best Cubs team in my lifetime, but the Dodgers were hot and I think the Cubs were overconfident. I do believe that they were psychologically knocked out when the Dodgers hit that grand slam, but that I blame on leadership or lack thereof.

Right.

Those were all baseball-related failures.

I do believe the Cubs got outmanaged in the 2007 series, too.

FUCK YOU MICHIGAN STATE
this is SPARTA!!!!
all's not lost - Notre Dame got beat
Oklahoma getting crushed at home by Texas Tech
you know what is annoying about the Cardinals winning

it reminds you how horribly operated the Cubs have been for years. I honestly feel that is changing though.

Of course, true change will happen when Q-Dawg is gone as far as I’m concerned.

the same could be said about the Yanks and Red Sox, prior to Theo

I like to think that the befuddled state of Boston’s ownership after Tom Yawkey died in 1976 had as much to do with the Yankees’ championships in the 70s and 90s as Steinbrenner’s wallet. But once a competent, competitive owner was back in charge of the Red Sox (his recent douche-like behavior aside), things got a lot tougher for the Bronx Bombers.

I hate

Albert Pujols

why would they pitch to him again

the man is unbelievably locked in tonight.

save us theo
Coming from you, that is pretty funny.
I hate the cards but GOD DAMN

……… I respect em! Pujols is a man among boys and the cards deserve the press theie getting!!! As much as i say fuck em, i gotta say i respect em!

Two homers, so Pujols spoke to the media after the game?

I’m shocked. Shocked.

3 homers...

…and if Albert Pujols sees another strike the rest of this World Series, Ron Washington should be fired and the pitcher should be beaten about the head and shoulders with a bat. I’m wondering if they’ve figured out yet that that Pujols dude is a pretty good hitter?

I felt a pretty big difference in the NLCS

Was that Pujols had a plausible threat hitting behind him, and Fielder had Rickie Weeks. If Prince goes elsewhere, that ought to put a dent in Braun’s numbers just by losing that protection in the lineup.

But I also don’t get why teams aren’t pitching around Pujols anyway.

In this series

I’d walk Pujols with bases loaded.

I'd hit him with a pitch right in the ribs.
Replay! NOW!

No way an easily corrected bad call should be allowed to stand like that … none.

Agreed

It would have taken .02 seconds to reverse that call and keep the game moving forward…

It might not have changed the result of the game.

But it might.

Feature I wrote on this topic for Baseball Nation.

It might have

you never know, but that a incorrect call, and this one was clearly wrong, should never be allowed to stand.

If anything, it could have changed the momentum in this World Series.

Just like the Don Denkinger call gave the Royals new life in 1985. Kansas City crushed the Cardinals in Game 7 and Whitey Herzog and Joaquin Andujar both got tossed out of the game. It’ll be interesting to see how the Rangers respond tonight. If they come back and beat the Cardinals tonight and tomorrow, I think momentum goes back to them heading back to St. Louis. I don’t know about you, but I would love to see the Rangers win it all on the Cardinals’ lawn.

For those of you who say that the Cubs helped the Cardinals get into the playoffs...

Don’t forget that last year the Cubs helped knock the Padres out of the playoffs. Had San Diego beaten the Cubs last September, it might have been the Padres, not the Giants, winning the World Series last October. And, who knows? Maybe Jed Hoyer stays on as GM of the Padres and they keep Adrian Gonzalez. I am a firm believer in fate and destiny. I don’t like the Cardinals either, but I think you’ve got to tip your hat off to the team. Because all of the so-called “experts” had the Phillies winning it all because of that “Hall of Fame rotation.” And they said the Brewers were going to win the pennant and so did I. Whether we like it or not, the Cardinals earned their trip to the World Series. And as much as we want to contest the bad call that went in favor of the Cardinals last night, the Rangers still got beat by 9 runs. It’ll be interesting to see how Texas responds to last night’s loss.

I hate to disagree with you,

the Braves gave the Cardinals their opportunity. This looks like 2006 when the Cardinals back into the playoffs with a horrible record get hot and win it all. That one call could turn out to be huge. I say give each team one “challenge” per game, if they win it they get to use another, if you don’t you lose it. It would not be used every game but would be there if needed, get the game right, it would add an extra commercial and bring in more revenue.

Sorry but I have to disagree with you here

This year is not like 2006. In 2006 the Cardinals backed into the playoffs. This year they roared into the playoffs as (arguably) the hottest team in baseball. They wouldn’t have made it if not for Atlanta’s choke, but they won 90 games (hardly a “horrible record”) which is going to get you into the playoffs more times than not. That 2006 team might have been lucky to win the Series. If this 2011 team wins it won’t be luck. They’re a legitimately great team on paper.

Yes the Cardinals got hot this year, but they don't qualify if the Braves play

anything resembling baseball in September. Also 90 wins is in reality the minimum you need to get the wild card this is for the last 11 years. Only two teams made the wild card with less than 90 wins. From 95-2000 one non-90 game winning team made it. The Cardinals are not a great team, they are a good team that is playing very well and getting all the breaks right now.
