The Texas Rangers could win the first World Series championship in their history tonight if they beat the Cardinals in St. Louis. No weather problems expected, though temperatures will be cool (upper 40s to low 50s at game time).
I know who most Cubs fans are rooting for. When the season finally does end -- either today or tomorrow -- then our sights will be turned to the offseason and changes to come in the Cubs coaching staff (hopefully) and roster.
Meanwhile, Colby Lewis faces Jaime Garcia in Game 6. More game details after the jump.

Game time for Rangers/Cardinals: 7:05 pm. CDT. Rangers lead series 3-2. TV: Fox. Announcers: Joe Buck & Tim McCarver (get your mute button ready).

Go Rangers!
Hopefully they’ll hit ’em hard, hit ’em often & take Garcia out early, forcing the Cards to bring in the bullpen early.
jeffmills1972 - October 27, 2011
I don't know what this says about me as a baseball fan in general
But my interest in this series is low. As mentioned, my sights are already on what news will come in next.
monkeybiz - October 27, 2011
In spite of the fact that it's the Cardinals in the Series, I think it's been a good World Series overall.
jeffmills1972 - October 27, 2011
Is the country bored with this Series?
And if so, why? Is it that the ESPN sports puppet masters have declared this a dull match because New York and Boston are long gone? I’m happy as a clam that the Yankees and the Red Sox are out of this thing. In fact, both LCSs were great because all four teams were from the Midwest/Heartland. The whole East Coast hegemony in baseball had been starting to get me down. Naturally, I’m hoping the Epstein Gang will lead us to a new era wherein the rest of the country will start getting aggravated because the Cubs are always in the NLCS and/or Series. But back to the original thesis — the OP says his (her?) interest in the Series is low. That’s funny because it’s been a great Series with twists and turns, dramas, bizarre managing, good guys and bad guys, excellent play and lousy play. This is terrific stuff.
copingwiththecubs - October 27, 2011
FWIW, the ratings for Monday night's game were better than "Monday Night Football".
I am a Cubs fan, but first and foremost I am a baseball fan and I enjoy watching the World Series. The only one I didn’t see or care to watch was 2003.
jeffmills1972 - October 27, 2011
I hear you brother...
from my POV, the 2003 Series didn’t even exist.
copingwiththecubs - October 27, 2011
I put an asterisk next to the 1981 World Series. That whole season was hosed.
I never did understand that whole “split-season” concept. Should have been the Cardinals and Reds in the NL and Brewers and Athletics in the AL.
jeffmills1972 - October 27, 2011
The purpose behind the split season in 1981
was to get another round of the playoffs in and make up some of the money they lost in the strike.
It’s done in every minor league below Triple-A, of course. But of course, everyone knows that before the start of the season and they did not in 1981.

timh815 - October 27, 2011
Agree.
slcathena - October 27, 2011
BTW to the guy in the previous thread who said how Sandberg quit in '94...Cutler was the quitter last year. Big difference between a guy who retires and one who quits.
jeffmills1972 - October 27, 2011
Why did Garcia get pulled?
Looked good to me in the third.
timh815 - October 27, 2011
I was wondering the same thing.
That was bizarre.
Now, whether Lewis can get out of this or not…yikes. I hope the Rangers have someone up.
slcathena - October 27, 2011
Ah crap
Looks like Washington might have to go to the bullpen early

ugly baseball

The Cubs are in the World Series!
Look at those errors

The 2011 Cubs are not in this series
jpeters407 - October 27, 2011

You could if you were playing the 2011 Cubs.

timh815 - October 27, 2011
I think a 28% turnover rate
which is 7 players.
jpeters407 - October 27, 2011
I can see some middle people going
we’ll have to keep the bad contracts although we might be lucky enough to move Z to the marlins. We should keep Castro, Garza, Soto and possibly Byrd. Maybe Barney, depending on what else we have. I’m really okay with losing the rest.
slcathena - October 27, 2011
It won't be that many.
You are forgetting guys like Marshall, Russell who were very good. Campagna is an ideal 5th outfielder. Dempster will be back, as will Cashner and Wells.
jpeters407 - October 27, 2011
I did forget about other pitchers you are right
Keep wells, marshall and cashner.
I like Campagna particularly if we can teach him how to walk. Can you imagine?
I love Demp, and would like him back for sentimental reasons. But if he went I’d be okay. Sort of how I feel about Rami.

Napoli twisted his ankle SIDEWAYS in a way that looked like a sure break or ligament damage and walked it off. Holliday left a make or break game in the world series because of a BRUISED finger. And has done nothing this series. I’m glad he’s a Cardinal so I can hate on him a long time.

7-4 woohoo!
scottsdalecubs - October 27, 2011
i wish kinsler was a cub
he’s a monster
jesus christos - October 27, 2011
I wish Hamilton was still....
just kidding. There’s a couple guys on the Rangers I really like watching and Kinsler is definitely one of them.
Section 312 - October 27, 2011
I wish we had good players.
::sigh::
dtpollitt - October 27, 2011 via mobile
We have a couple
And we’ll get more. #theo
slcathena - October 27, 2011
on the bright side demp got to 200 innings again!
jesus christos - October 27, 2011
OK, one more time.
Don’t stop now, get more insurance runs.
jpeters407 - October 27, 2011
Wonder how Angels fans feel
seeing Napoli tear it up in the playoffs. Good trade sending him out and bringing back Vernon Wells.
bheidge - October 27, 2011
omar minaya will lead the angels to the promised land
jesus christos - October 27, 2011
Cardinals are falling apart
Hammer - October 27, 2011
It's about time.
They have been playing like a MUCH BETTER TEAM than they are for a while now.
slcathena - October 27, 2011
you can only make it so far on just hope and a prayer
please dont screw it up now Texas
bheidge - October 27, 2011
Idea
Get the first two guys out here.
timh815 - October 27, 2011
On a side note
This dude can sing
MMA42 - October 27, 2011
Yeah...
and there’s just something a little extra about hearing a serviceman/woman signing the National Anthem or God Bless America.
CubFan81 - October 27, 2011
as much as I hate this song in the 7th innning!!
he sure can sing
Hammer - October 27, 2011
Whatever happened to "take me out to the ballgame"?
bheidge - October 27, 2011
Might be done...
during the commercial break. I don’t think its as big a deal for the TV audience in places other than Wrigley.
CubFan81 - October 27, 2011
I just realized I'm really going to take pleasure in St. Louis losing.
dtpollitt - October 27, 2011 via mobile
I realized that
Section 312 - October 27, 2011
Best way to kill momentum!!

Lame
Hammer - October 27, 2011
theriot grounding out to 2b on the first pitch would be poetic justice
jesus christos - October 27, 2011
Give him some credit...
I say the second pitch.
CubFan81 - October 27, 2011
good call
jesus christos - October 27, 2011
boom
Hammer - October 27, 2011
Would you settle...
for a pop out to 2B?
CubFan81 - October 27, 2011
is it just me
or does Holland absolutely hum it to first
IowaCubsWS09 - October 27, 2011
It's not just you
that would have been tough to hit.
Section 312 - October 27, 2011
almost feel bad for the 1b

he does a beast Arnold Scwatrzenwhatever impersonation
Hammer - October 27, 2011
I don’t know if Washington is a good manager. But I sure do enjoy watching him work.
dtpollitt - October 27, 2011 via mobile
anybody's fun to watch

IowaCubsWS09 - October 27, 2011
He's totally crazy.
But it’s paying off.

Pujols looks hurt
scottsdalecubs - October 27, 2011
$300mill heals all wounds
jesus christos - October 27, 2011
does 200 million???
No fricken way he touches 300
Hammer - October 27, 2011
fine
an annual payout of $28mill+ heals all wounds
jesus christos - October 27, 2011
Would love for the Cards to do that.
IowaCubsWS09 - October 27, 2011
agreed
Hammer - October 27, 2011
Is it just me..
or does Albert run a bit like an old man?
CubFan81 - October 27, 2011
Albert is an old man
or maybe just a long year
bheidge - October 27, 2011
Yes, I think he is hurt.
That will be his excuse after he flees the locker room after the game, leaving Lynn to talk to reporters.
jpeters407 - October 27, 2011
I think that's a reason
we should tread very cautiously there. I may be alone in this but I’m not really a fan of going out to get either Pujols or Fielder.
slcathena - October 27, 2011
yeah me either
better off without either in the long run
bheidge - October 27, 2011
I could see Fielder for 5 years
jpeters407 - October 27, 2011
Fielder will be 50 lbs heavier in 5 years.
And will age before his time. We should look for younger talent, it will be cheaper and have far more upside
slcathena - October 27, 2011
Yeah...
the only problem there is there’s no way he’ll get less than 6 years and will likely get 7.
CubFan81 - October 27, 2011
Then push up the $ and let someone else take him.
Same thing with Pujols. At least act like we are interested, kame others pay more.
jpeters407 - October 27, 2011
He's Dominican
I think that automatically adds 3 years to the age he claims to be
Barkman - October 27, 2011
Don't let Al see this. He'll spaz out about this.
ubercubsfan - October 27, 2011
I rec'd it
want to make it stick out a lil more
bheidge - October 27, 2011
You are not alone.
slcathena - October 27, 2011
Al's reply will be "Sigh." And once again I'll call for it to be banned from BCB
EalyEagle - October 27, 2011
Last Pujols at bat as a Cardinal?
He goes into history as only one of three to hit three homers is a world series game, and goes hit less in the rest of the series.
jpeters407 - October 27, 2011
My grandfather who turns 80 in Feb...
I love that I get an email from him – “R U watching this?”
Love it – the old guy sent it from his iPad
Hammer - October 27, 2011
That's awesome.
slcathena - October 27, 2011

Ill share this with him.. He is a good friend and I love talking baseball with him.
Hammer - October 27, 2011
Thank you.
I wish I could watch this game with them. You’re lucky to have such a great grandfather.
slcathena - October 27, 2011
Glad you are aware of how lucky you are
and hope you enjoy talking baseball with him for many years to come.
Section 312 - October 27, 2011
thanks I do
Cannot wait for spring training again in Feb
Hammer - October 27, 2011
My grandfather
was a Dodger fan his whole life so I felt bad cheering for the Giants last year. But I think as a former pitcher himself, like me, he’d have appreciated watching good pitching beating good hitting.
Section 312 - October 27, 2011
Awwww.
My grandfather was a Yankees fan, but whenever he talked to me he always professed a love of the Cubs. That man was awesome.
slcathena - October 27, 2011
Whenever the kid in the iPhone commercial asks "what does a weasel look like"
I always say, “he’s in the Cardinals dugout, sitting next to Dave Duncan.”
EalyEagle - October 27, 2011
Pujols should go to the Al
Hammer - October 27, 2011
This.
slcathena - October 27, 2011

that the Rangers are thinking of making a big push to get him.
CubFan81 - October 27, 2011
That's a smart move.

slcathena - October 27, 2011

ugh
jesus christos - October 27, 2011
I'll bet McCarver is still PO'd that he made the last out of the 1968 World Series
EalyEagle - October 27, 2011
Eh.
I’d be PO’d about that. That’s a thing that sticks with you. I dislike the man because he’s a terrible announcer, but he should probably still be pissed about that if he was a pro ball player.
slcathena - October 27, 2011
Holland to finish,
if he’s scoreless here.
timh815 - October 27, 2011
I think Pujols is getting an unfair rap this Series.
Before tonight he was OPSing over 1.200 this series, but I think the media is blaming him for a poor team showing.
dtpollitt - October 27, 2011 via mobile
outside of game 3
pujols hasn’t done jack
jesus christos - October 27, 2011
Agreed, he has not had a hit in any other game.
He was a stud in a nine run blowout and has done nothing in all the close games.
jpeters407 - October 27, 2011
Pujols is the only Cardinal I like.
He’s an epic player.
But this isn’t his series. Napoli and Beltre have shone here. And if I were a Cardinal fan, Allen Craig would be my dude.
slcathena - October 27, 2011
Bullshit, he's got on base like 6 times.
He’s not getting shit to hit, but he was on base multiple times in two games besides his 3-homer game.
dtpollitt - October 27, 2011 via mobile
Ok, by that analogy Pena was a top 1st baseman last year.
Of course it is not his fault that the players behind him have not picked up the slack. The Cubs could take a few lessons and NOT pitch to Albert.
jpeters407 - October 27, 2011
If that happened, it would most likely be Phillies vs Rangers.
ubercubsfan - October 27, 2011
LOL, and Quade might be coming back.
I jest of course.
jpeters407 - October 27, 2011
Strawman.
dtpollitt - October 27, 2011 via mobile
BTW, I hated Berkman before
but during game 1 when they mentioned that he NICKNAMED HIMSELF the “big puma” it went to a whole new level of jackassery.
slcathena - October 27, 2011
he'll always be Fat Elvis to me
EalyEagle - October 27, 2011
Pork & Beans to me
bheidge - October 27, 2011
No way man, THE BIG PUMA is one of my 5 favorite baseball nicknames ever. I think Lance would be a totally cool dude to get beer and whisky shots with.
dtpollitt - October 27, 2011 via mobile
I bet he'd break a bottle over your head around 1 AM
shoemile - October 27, 2011

EalyEagle - October 27, 2011
God that'd be an awesome fucking story.
dtpollitt - October 27, 2011 via mobile
It's a great nickname

slcathena - October 27, 2011

For the record
Allen Craig has over performed.
slcathena - October 27, 2011
Napoli

timh815 - October 27, 2011
Obvi Napoli.
But if you’re a Cards fan, is there someone who has done better for you in this series than Craig?
slcathena - October 27, 2011
if this was the NBA...
you can be sure the Knicks would sign him for 5 years and $55M.
God I hate the lockout.
CubFan81 - October 27, 2011
I have been pretty pissed at the NBA for years
so the lockout only bothers me on the nights that the Bruins aren’t playing.
slcathena - October 27, 2011
Is there an NBA season?
I thought it was only the playoffs. This also hurts the Bulls and helps the veteran teams since they won’t have to play as many games. If they ever get it settled.
jpeters407 - October 27, 2011
Very true.
slcathena - October 27, 2011
Damn it Texas
You have to close this game out

Ace Venom - October 27, 2011
why would andrus double clutch that?
scottsdalecubs - October 27, 2011
the ghost of...
Theriot?
CubFan81 - October 27, 2011
because they've been playing the world series
like it’s won by who has the most errors all night But that was a terrible mental mistake.
slcathena - October 27, 2011
omg. omg.
slcathena - October 27, 2011
Please get him out of there
I don’t want the Cardinals to win. :(

Ace Venom - October 27, 2011
Furcal is a loser
destined to fail and take everyone with him
bheidge - October 27, 2011
I don't like him
but didn’t the Cards season turn around about the time they traded for Furcal?
LT - October 27, 2011
And took Theriot out of the line up.
Of course that was around when Freese got back also.
jpeters407 - October 27, 2011
Only thing he did was come up with their
stupid little “Happy Flight” motto on getaway days
bheidge - October 27, 2011
Oh Thank God.
GO RANGERS!!!!!!!
slcathena - October 27, 2011
Funk Furcal
LT - October 27, 2011

AussieCub - October 27, 2011
Theriot leads off
the B9.
Down more than 1.
With Pujols to follow.
Will it be a strike he swings at first pitch?
timh815 - October 27, 2011
If he swings before he gets a strike he should be immediately released.
jpeters407 - October 27, 2011
My guess...
Ball, Swing and miss on high and tight, foul, grounder to short.
CubFan81 - October 27, 2011
I cannot stress enough how much I dislike Ryan Theriot.
dtpollitt - October 27, 2011 via mobile
No pesky single?
Seriously I think he gets on base and TOOTBLANs ahead of a Pujols homer. It would be justice.
slcathena - October 27, 2011
Obviously after that 2 more people get out and the Cards lose by 1.
slcathena - October 27, 2011
Who designed J. Edgar's dresses in the new movie Eastwood directed?
EalyEagle - October 27, 2011
Who is due up for Cards in bottom?
Lweb23 - October 27, 2011
Riot
Pujols
Berkman
timh815 - October 27, 2011
Scappy Doo, the 200 Million Dollar Man and Fat Elvis/Pork & Beans/Big Puma
bheidge - October 27, 2011
Well said, T-Bone.
slcathena - October 27, 2011
I thought T-Bone always wanted to be called
bheidge.
jpeters407 - October 27, 2011

bheidge - October 27, 2011
K-uger K-uger
Sounds like one of those old time car horns.
Section 312 - October 27, 2011
why no t-bone??
LT - October 27, 2011
He is going to change is name to T-Bone.
It should be mandatory if the Rangers win.
jpeters407 - October 27, 2011
T-Bone is probably already registered
It would have to be something like T-Bone211983312. If thats the case, I think the name loses all of its mojo
bheidge - October 27, 2011
Ahh, that is too bad.
jpeters407 - October 27, 2011
because the steaks are too high?
EalyEagle - October 27, 2011
Puma steaks?

slcathena - October 27, 2011

jesus christos - October 27, 2011
If he hits a homerun
I will miss the rest of the game after throwing something at my TV.
slcathena - October 27, 2011
No he's not
He is going to fail and fail spectacularly.
Theo will make sure it happens.
AussieCub - October 27, 2011
I like how Theo can just do anything now.
New motto:

slcathena - October 27, 2011
I like how they tried to show
theriot, pujols and berkman and couldn’t find berkman. That was awesome.
slcathena - October 27, 2011
he heard a lightning storm was in the area
bheidge - October 27, 2011
Hiking up your pants and wearing team-colored socks should be an MLB mandate.
I love it. I just do.
dtpollitt - October 27, 2011 via mobile
I can't see it on all players
but I definitely prefer the pants up
Lweb23 - October 27, 2011
Aramis and Zambrano kinda looked like fools

bheidge - October 27, 2011
The fool part actually has nothing to do with their clothing.
dtpollitt - October 27, 2011 via mobile
Better than the pajama bottom look, although I'm partial to stirrups-and-socks look of the 70s-80s
EalyEagle - October 27, 2011
First thing I'd do...

CubFan81 - October 27, 2011

CubFan81 - October 27, 2011
Here we go folks.....
LT - October 27, 2011
If...
Scrappy Doo gets on and Poo-hole knocks one out to tie it, I might eat my left arm.
Lweb23 - October 27, 2011
Well..
here’s hoping they don’t. Or at the least, that you’re right handed.
CubFan81 - October 27, 2011
All I can say is
If the Cubs are ever in the position that either of these teams are in right now it would be AWESOME. But I would be an absolute wreak.
Mapmaker - October 27, 2011 via mobile
WHEN the Cubs are in this position
I am going to lose my shit. But I will not be posting on BCB for it, because I will be at Wrigley. There if I"m lucky enough, but outside as close as I can if necessary.
slcathena - October 27, 2011
I will be there.
in the stadium or out, home or away game.
Lweb23 - October 27, 2011
I will be on the street if I have to
but I am saving up days off work for that.

AussieCub - October 27, 2011

there it is, glad Fox didn’t disappoint us there with that graphic.
CubFan81 - October 27, 2011

No, that’s some other dude.
AussieCub - October 27, 2011
I am pretty sure
Pujols getting a hit doesn’t make a pitch an expletive. Theriot on the other hand….

If he had had someone more competent hitting in front of him
that might have scored a run.
As it stands, I think this game ends with Pujols on 2nd.

The only place you can get the hard stuff is in a state owned store. They are few and far between and they close at 9. There’s a citizen initiative that would privatize sales. Cards very fortunate
Some bloop hits, ump calls in their favor, and a bad play by Andrus. Hopefully the Rangers come back tomorrow and take it.
propheteer - October 27, 2011
this is how the Cards have ALWAYS won. they aren't fortunate, that's just how Tony LaRussa teams win.
bloop hits and shallow line drives with less than two outs, then doubles and homers.
kpd - October 28, 2011
Correct
TJ11 - October 28, 2011
As much as I hate the Cardinals, I have to say this about the Rangers
They had a bigger Game 6 choke than we could dream of having. I don’t see the Cardinals losing Game 7 after this win tonight. The bullpen didn’t execute. The defense didn’t execute. Ron Washington overmanaged. It was a clusterfrack all around.
Ace Venom - October 28, 2011
Quite a remarkable meltdown by the Rangers. I think it's the worst ever.
scottsdalecubs - October 28, 2011
Ok, did anybody NOT see this coming? This game opitimized the St Louis Cardinals and Tony LaRussa
Tony LaRussa teams have one thing in common every single year: the ability to rally via the line drive and the shallow line drive. Tony’s teams, when trailing in the 7th inning or later, always seem to hit a flair liner into the outfield. They do this until they’ve got somebody on 2nd with less than two outs. Then comes the home run. They also always seem to have random dudes who are awful (like Aaron Miles) sign a 1 year deal and hit .300 until leaving the following year and sucking again.
I don’t care if we’d have to pay out the ass. Tony LaRussa needs to be managing the Cubs next year.
kpd - October 28, 2011
A frickin' team of destiny...
…starting from the day Marmol unleashed that game ending wild pitch in St. Louis.
Easy Ed - October 28, 2011
The Cubs horribleness did play a small part in this.......
