But I hope the price is lower than that. I appreciate everything Kerry has done, and will do, for the Cubs organization… but that’s a bit steep for a RH set-up guy who still makes annual trips to the DL.
I don’t expect the Cubs get quite the same discount, but I would hope $3M tops (doubling from last year) would do it.
If he gets $5M, EasyEd’s head will explode… and the pieces will be left all over BCB.
I’ve had this fear for a while…. and to be extremely clear I wouldn’t wish this on anyone….. but I can envision him having one of those rare gruesome on field injury moments where an elbow ligament, shoulder muscle, or even bone just… snaps.
Yeah... on the rare instances they show the replays
from Dave Dravecky or Tony Saunders, I have to turn the other way. It gets me especially because I was a LHP, like both of them, in HS…… so I get like ghost pains down my arm.
Sounds about right
jerry morales rules - December 7, 2011
Yep.
He’ll make more in 2012. $4- $5 million?
Al Yellon - December 7, 2011
Not outlandish, by any means.

fsuapollo - December 7, 2011
I agree on the 3M number
4-5 seems a little much
Hammer - December 7, 2011
I'd say 3 M base plus incentives
For appearances that could bring it to 4.5 if he stays healthy all year.
cubzfan - December 7, 2011
He most certainly is worth $5M...
…if this was 2002.
Maybe 1 year @ $2.5M and ONLY if there’s a “no more than one trip to the DL” clause in it.
Easy Ed - December 7, 2011
He is worth it!
CubFanInChina - December 7, 2011
No
Easy Ed - December 7, 2011
At 2.5 or 3M,
yes I believe he is. On the field and in the clubhouse/bullpen.
KS_Cub4Life - December 8, 2011
Absolutely.
Al Yellon - December 8, 2011
he is worth that and more IMHO
Cubbie-Tim - December 9, 2011
Yep, bring him back.
He is still a power right arm in the bullpen.
cubfanwill - December 7, 2011
Could be the closer too if we trade Marmol
Chanman25 - December 7, 2011
Prediction
Marmol is coming to come in shape this year. Gut feeling
Hammer - December 7, 2011
*going to come in shape
Hammer - December 7, 2011
I have the same feeling Hammer.
KS_Cub4Life - December 8, 2011
I hope so
Chanman25 - December 7, 2011
ISWYDT
Al Yellon - December 7, 2011
bows
But still – If he has some pride he would be busting his ass this offseason.
Hammer - December 7, 2011
I would think so, too.
It would be great if he showed up in shape.
Al Yellon - December 7, 2011
Not terribly concerned about him being in shape...
as being a fatso hasn’t seemed to affect Heath Bell or Jose Valverde.
I’m more concerned with whether or not he shows up with life on his slider and better command of his fastball.
SouthernCub - December 7, 2011
I can agree there
…there are lineman in football who are fat in the belly but in great shape. I would say guys like Valverde and Bell are in that group.
Then there are guys like Marmol, who when in shape, appear in shape.
Either way – I hope his mornings have consisted of a healthy breakfast followed by a long run.
Hammer - December 7, 2011
Agreed.
Marmol might be one of those guys who can’t pitch well when they’re not in shape.
Al Yellon - December 7, 2011
I wonder whether it's in shapeness or dead armness
I’ve never felt like pitching (especially closing) is a terribly exhausting process requiring great shape.
SouthernCub - December 7, 2011
I agree he probably needs to be in shape.
But I’m probably more concerned about the toll a billion sliders and atrocious mechanics have taken on his arm.
fsuapollo - December 7, 2011
he throws so violently that it is just a matter of time before his arm starts hurting
Cubbie-Tim - December 9, 2011
Almost no doubt.
I’ve had this fear for a while…. and to be extremely clear I wouldn’t wish this on anyone….. but I can envision him having one of those rare gruesome on field injury moments where an elbow ligament, shoulder muscle, or even bone just… snaps.
fsuapollo - December 9, 2011
that image makes me sick
I was the base ump for a 13 year old game when it happened to the pitcher. FOR THE SECOND TIME – it had happened to him before.
Hammer - December 9, 2011
Yeah... on the rare instances they show the replays
from Dave Dravecky or Tony Saunders, I have to turn the other way. It gets me especially because I was a LHP, like both of them, in HS…… so I get like ghost pains down my arm.
fsuapollo - December 9, 2011
i am more worried about his mental make up
when he gives up a hit or someone makes a bad play behind him, he seems to lose control and in the process the game.
Cubbie-Tim - December 7, 2011
He might be the closer
with Marmol sitting in the left field corner.
fsw1972 - December 7, 2011
Marmol's
replacing Soriano? I thought that was Marshal’s job?
drewishdrewid - December 8, 2011
they wanted to shake things up a little
Cubbie-Tim - December 9, 2011
