The Cubs today announced an advance ticket sale which will include nine games; they've done similar things in the past (last year it was 13 games), in an attempt to fill some of the seats shown above before the main single-game ticket sale happens on March 9.
For the general public, this sale begins Friday, Jan. 20 at 10 a.m. CT, but there are at least two presales, one for season ticket holders and one for Wrigleyville neighbors. The STH presale begins at 10 a.m. Wednesday, Jan. 18 and the neighbors presale, Wednesday, Jan. 18 at noon.
The list of games is somewhat better than in some previous years. You'll note that you can get tickets to Red Sox, White Sox and Cardinals weekend games as your first two picks, and then you have to pick "lesser" games to fill out the plan. There are different choices for the "lesser" games depending on whether you want bleachers or "bowl" (what we used to call "the grandstand") seats.
It's a bit complicated to explain in a post, so go to this page at cubs.com where it lists the games you can pick from for each choice of the nine games.

I for one
Hope they have a nine game pack where Kerry Wood is guaranteed to pitch.
Otherwise I won’t buy it.
I kid, I kid
Nunyabidness - January 12, 2012
Actually, I laughed.
Al Yellon - January 12, 2012
he probably won't pitch in more than nine games all year
blisters ya know
doofus cubs guy - January 12, 2012
so only about $500k a game
not bad, GETITDONETHEOJED
Cubbie-Tim - January 12, 2012
Soriano makes about $35,000 per at bat, so... could always be worse.
bdlugz - January 12, 2012
Interesting that Opening Day is a part of this...
…but I guess after last year not selling out until the very end, it’s not a huge surprise. Not a bad way to go if you really want to see the Red Sox and a few games a month! Seems like these are better than the 9-packs in the past.

Al
Did you send a bat signal up for Jessica so she knows you posted something about ticket sales?
Madison Cub Fan - January 12, 2012
Moi???
Why would I care that the Cubs finally got a brain and are selling a somewhat reasonable ticket package. Too little too late but better than nothing I guess.
Doggie Stalker - January 12, 2012
you get she was joking.......right?
Nunyabidness - January 12, 2012
Oh là là!
RiskyBusiness - January 12, 2012
We are all so thirlled to hear your approval.
Now I can breathe again.
Flatley - January 13, 2012
I get all the sarcasm but in fact the Cubs have had major ticket sales changes
The difference between this pack and say the pack offered two years ago is huge, instead of something like 2 good games, 2 OK games and the rest the hardest to sell this is a far more balanced package. There has also been a major turnover is season tickets. In previous years the Cubs were in the catbird’s seat and over half the games were sell outs by the first day of sales. I expect we will see a lot of special discounts on tickets as well. It does show that the Cubs can no longer count on fans to fill up the seats regardless of price and performance. This is not a bad thing, but it is something people scoffed at only a few years ago.

I wish that they had them set to sell a few weeks later
after I got my tax return
Cubbie-Tim - January 12, 2012
That's a "telling picture"...
Did we see this earlier in year? I thought posted by a BCBer??? I wanna say Katie or Emelie…but I could be wrong. (Often am) :]
jeffstorm2 - January 12, 2012
Or...perhaps Swoosie???
jeffstorm2 - January 12, 2012
Yes. That was me.
katie casey - January 12, 2012
Also, that was almost 2 hours before gametime.
So it isn’t necessarily telling…at least not at the time I took it.
Oh and thanks Al for using it. I’m flattered.
katie casey - January 13, 2012
I'm very picky about which games I go to each season,
but surprisingly, I can get nearly every one of them through this list. I like how they threw Opening Day in there too to make up for not being able to pick Red Sox and White Sox together. So pretty much, I like what they did here by narrowing it down.

lol

As a STH and “Wrigleyville neighbor”, there is no way in hell I’m touching this offer………unless they sign Fielder before the 20th. The $12k I’ve donated already is enough for me.
ferris2001 - January 13, 2012
As a STH, why would you need to?
Flatley - January 13, 2012
Some STH buy extras for friends.
Especially if you have bleacher season tickets and want tix for certain games so friends can come with you.
Al Yellon - January 13, 2012
I am all over this offer.
I can usually only make 10-12 games/season anyway…. This package allows a very weekend and summer-heavy slate of games. I don’t think you’re necessarily forced to buy any April weekdays!
D98 - January 13, 2012
Just buy what you want when you want it.
This package is worthless.
bluemagic9 - January 14, 2012
Easier said than done, for Saturday Boston tickets.
And that April Cards series.
I’m the kind of guy who likes having 10 games in hand in January, so that the rest of the schedule (and my wife’s, and my son’s) can be set up around it.
If I leave it to “I’ll go to a game when I feel like it”, we’ll never wind up going.
D98 - January 14, 2012
You will have to buy one April or May weekday game
but that is not unreasonable. However you might check on the list of ST people offering packages. You might get a better deal and you will almost surely get better seats (unless you are going for bleachers).
FYI I am sure the Boston Saturday will be the hottest ticket of the year but I don’t think the April Cards series will be in the top 10.
Doggie Stalker - January 14, 2012
Well, yeah. But that's so much more work.
I’d have to find someone with 5 contiguous seats in the front of the 500s near the press box. (Because I love those seats, and they’re way cheap.)
And who is willing to sell me their Boston Saturday tickets. And Rockies Saturday. And 2 summer sundays. And Cardinals in April.
And then I have to go to the trouble of finding somebody with tickets, and meeting up with them, and so on. And then I don’t get all the presale/extra stuff that the Cubs do b/c this is my 4th year of buying this package. And I don’t get that fun day when the big brick of tickets shows up in the mail.
I do have some friends with STs, and I pick up some of theirs, usually for extras in the games I already have tickets for, if I have family in town or something.
But as for April/May weekdays…. I don’t count Friday as a weekday when I have Cub tickets. :)
D98 - January 15, 2012
Needing 5 seats you are better with regular ticket sales.
Doggie Stalker - January 15, 2012
As Otter said in Animal House....
…..nothing for me, thanks!
DavidArthurKingman - January 13, 2012
the baby
doesn’t need a ticket, right?
drewishdrewid - January 13, 2012
Looking forward to making the trip this year...
I haven’t been to Wrigley in 4 years.
IowaCubs- - January 13, 2012
Of all the years...
bluemagic9 - January 14, 2012
By September we will field a competitive team.
That will not in any way resemble what we have now. The transformation is going to be fun to watch, it already is.
jpeters407 - January 14, 2012
So what ST seats are going to be left
For schlubs like me to choose from at 3:30pm on the 28th?
Zeke - January 14, 2012 via mobile
The seats available will be in the corners.
There won’t be any great seats, but there should be some good seats. Of course any seat in Wrigley is a good seat just to be there! Enjoy the day, it was quite an experience. Last year we were in aisle 202, now we are in 213. Our seats were good, but we did move up a few times when the crowds were small, one time we were even told by an usher to move up closer to the field.
jpeters407 - January 14, 2012
Can anyone give me an idea of what to expect on the ST selection day?
I have a 10:00 AM appointment – I am just looking for maybe something 500 level outfield, but one of the closer sections to the infield sections.
Out of luck?
TheWishman - January 16, 2012
Virtual Waiting Room on 9-game presale day.
Demand must be very, very high. This has never happened before.
D98 - January 18, 2012
Still managed to get all the games we wanted.
And six contiguous seats for each game, too.
