I saw tweets about this but hadn’t seen a design. Reminds me of Monster seats as well. I’m not typically thrilled about design changes to Wrigley, but I understand why they’re necessary and try to keep an open mind. In time we’ll get used to it.
The wall is farther out and I could see the wall being part scoreboard like at miller park. I’m open to this but only in right field where it is deeper where more seats could be placed
It looks like they might be reducing the number of bleacher seats, which is probably a good thing (for the Cubs) since they really killed the market for bleacher tickets with the last expansion.
It also might introduce a new seat category (a la Green Monster seats) which could be in demand.
Plus you get a video screen. The only thing I don’t like is nobody in the bleachers would be able to see it.
maybe those seats in RF that can’t see the video board will be like club seats (as you said, like the Monster Seats) and they could have tv’s or some other technology built into those tables?
It will have no replay capability, just pictures, stats, and advertisements. Why is this necessary? Why add a “jumbotron” just to add it? I don’t see this making Wrigley suddenly much more modern?
But after a couple years of watching this new ownership operate, it’s fairly obvious they don’t give a shit about what fans think about this kind of stuff. They want to make money.
Well, sure, I agree it's obvious they want to make money
I don’t necessarily agree that they don’t care what fans think. But yea, I suppose it’s the all about bringing in more money. That picture just looks awful strange.
that will hold the bleacher box seats/patio area looks to be raised due to the LED screen. This should eliminate any obstructed views from that seating area. And in turn, it allows the Cubs to do a better job of marketing them and hopefully selling them.
Additional revenue in more ways that one. I like it.
I also like the fact that they’re acknowledging that the Bleacher Box seats are a complete failure. I hate seeing the bleachers full and that area always so empty. Just looks weird.
No complaints from me on this thing, and I’m firmly in the “keep Wrigley the way it is” camp.
This is stupid. Have less seats and steal the idea for Fenway. Thank god I’ve been to Wrigley so the sight of this monstrosity doesn’t soil my memories.
i found this little gem on the CT comments about this
From the sketches, it looks like the Cubs lose about 500 seats in the RF corner and instead creating party decks just like they did in the United Center. Every day looks more like Fenway Park. If Ricketts loves the Red Sox so much why didn’t he buy them instead? This franchise is headed steadiily backwards. What a shame that the Cubs fans will never see a Championship team. Theo’s moves this off-season prove his strategic impotency… let’s get rethreads from the Padres? Ridiculous.
They are taking out some seats, yes… seats that had been nearly impossible to sell the last couple of years.
I like the video board, it will give more info and not be obtrusive, and the all inclusive package will probably attract people who otherwise might have bought rooftop tickets.
I will have a complete recap of day 2 of the convention posted in the morning. Long day.
Won't this somewhat obstruct the view of some of the rooftop guys?
Not that I give a care, but if so, I wonder how the Cubs managed that issue. Overall, however, I am against any increase in flashing lights (or LEDs) and loud music at a ballpark – especially Wrigley Field.
It won’t change the height at all. They are taking six rows of seats and making them three rows; the board replaces the front of that (and some of those seats had been obstructed view anyway).
I like this board; it will have useful information and is pretty understated. I don’t think you have to worry about loud music blasting accompanying it.
My seats will be very very close to this board. I’m not sure if that is good or bad. I certainly hope it isn’t distracting to watching the game with it being right in the corner of my eye all game.
They’ll probably have a screen of some sort in front of the board (to protect it from baseballs smashing into it) which would also reduce the distraction.
Thanks
I saw tweets about this but hadn’t seen a design. Reminds me of Monster seats as well. I’m not typically thrilled about design changes to Wrigley, but I understand why they’re necessary and try to keep an open mind. In time we’ll get used to it.

So are they taking out a few rows of seating for the LED board?
All The Way - January 14, 2012
well
The wall is farther out and I could see the wall being part scoreboard like at miller park. I’m open to this but only in right field where it is deeper where more seats could be placed
RIP Slim - January 14, 2012
Looks good
Wrigley needs to be introduced to the 21st century
Cubbiegoon - January 14, 2012
Agreed
And it looks like the found a way to make it look like the board belongs there. Excited to see it in person, is this going to be done for opening day?
All The Way - January 14, 2012
I haven't heard for sure
but because this isn’t like a big jumbrotron, I imagine it could be done by April
Lweb23 - January 14, 2012
I saw a tweet saying the patio will be done for opening day, nothing about the board though.
All The Way - January 14, 2012
This looks promising
I’m all for it. Wonder how easy it will be to see from UD down first base line. Looks like it’s above the wall, so shouldn’t be a problem.
Fukudometer - January 14, 2012
Oh crap.
Our seats are going to face that dang thing. I’m easily enough distracted.
katie casey - January 14, 2012
I did a search on twitter for Wrigley, patio and got this closer pic
RiskyBusiness - January 14, 2012
This looks like it is in the Bleacher Box seats in the right field corner
in the well. Not regular bleacher seats.
RiskyBusiness - January 14, 2012
you're exactly right....the bleacher box seats go to the end of that small curve in the ivy wall...I even think this will be cool!
cooliogirl47 - January 14, 2012
My seats are in the Right field corner, Terrace Reserve
I’ll have a get view of the screen.
Give me the clicker and I’ll control the 70 foot LED TV.
RiskyBusiness - January 14, 2012
Mine are in section 213, we will be looking right at the screen,
it will be great for stats and updates, I just hope it is not overdone like Miller Park.
jpeters407 - January 14, 2012
This is an interesting idea
It looks like they might be reducing the number of bleacher seats, which is probably a good thing (for the Cubs) since they really killed the market for bleacher tickets with the last expansion.
It also might introduce a new seat category (a la Green Monster seats) which could be in demand.
Plus you get a video screen. The only thing I don’t like is nobody in the bleachers would be able to see it.
tomas21 - January 14, 2012
I think you'll probably be able to see it from the left field bleachers..
All The Way - January 14, 2012
Heres another idea
maybe those seats in RF that can’t see the video board will be like club seats (as you said, like the Monster Seats) and they could have tv’s or some other technology built into those tables?

is it a possibility
They bring the wall even with the rest of the outfield and build from there?

I don't think so

but now, i don’t know..

maybe they can just run stats of Wood
and career highlights on it. in text format since it wont be showing replays

shoemile - January 14, 2012
i guess..
jesus christos - January 14, 2012
I'm not complaining about trying to make it more modern
I just don’t see how this makes Wrigley that much more modern, especially at the expense of completely changing the landscape of the outfield.
Whatever, I’m sure I’ll get used to it eventually.
alkappy - January 14, 2012
Kappy, I know you're an optimistic guy by nature.

It doesn't affect the actual playing field.
Dcr18 - January 14, 2012
thats my take on it
the yellow line will be above the ivy below the LED board
Cubbie-Tim - January 15, 2012
The platform
that will hold the bleacher box seats/patio area looks to be raised due to the LED screen. This should eliminate any obstructed views from that seating area. And in turn, it allows the Cubs to do a better job of marketing them and hopefully selling them.
Additional revenue in more ways that one. I like it.

Ricketts said they would be “reconfiguring” the RF corner. Guess this is what he meant.

Al Yellon - January 15, 2012
I think the next step, before a replay board..
Is to expand and upgrade the ribbon boards on the upper deck. The ones there now are not big enough and are already way out of date.
All The Way - January 15, 2012
I would agree with this.
