Is this the roster that we'll see in one month? I think pitching is set but I feel there will be some minor tweaks along the way.
Anone else ready for spring training?
On the off chance I have enough free time to get out & about, I’ll see if I can get over there. Time is the concern – I’m there doing coverage of a multi-day conference for webcast. My stay looks kind of like this:
Arrive, build, eat, sleep, get up, work, eat, work, eat, sleep, get up, work, eat, work, tear down, eat, sleep, get up (maybe free time), go to the airport.
Fun, huh?
People always say I get to go to many interesting places. I remind them that what I usually see is airports, cabs, and hotel conference rooms.
all reports aside, because really they all contradict each other anyways, i just have a feeling this front office wants a splash. They have been smart so far, but we all have egos, and bringing in a Cespedes would certainly get the fanbase talking. course i could be way off.
for sure. i think he has a # in mind, and to me he won't go too much over it.
i kind of get the feeling they purposely pay all the attention to Cespedes to divert other teams attention from Soler, since he seems to fit the long term plan a little more. but once again, just personal specualtion. both would be mighty fine with me also.
Yes I think Garza stays but that all changes is a team gets desperate.
And, I think that’s what the Cubs are counting on, a desperate team that will over-pay for Garza. We have seven possible rotation options, I think that’s all but over.
As far as other positions, sure we may dangle Byrd or Soriano out there but I’m not counting on anyone jumping on them. Best case would be spring training injuries where again, someone is desperate and knows the Cubs are willing to eat salary for the right package of prospects. I think we’re pretty close on the roster but I’ve been wrong so many times you just never know.
Yeah!
That is great news.
We are going down there by last week of March!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

And once again...
I’m going to be in Scottsdale for work just before the games start.
Happened last year, and again next month. And I can’t stretch my stay, dammit.

Go watch the Fitch Park workouts.
It’s free and you can get closer to the players.

I'll look into it.

We booked our trip before ST tix went on sale.
Any suggestions?

I think we'll see Soler or Cespedes in camp.

I'd still prefer Soler
and don’t know when either will be available for signing.
timh815 - January 18, 2012
i agree completely. but also would not be too mad if they signed Cespedes.
MDavis - January 18, 2012
I don't imaging Theo
would overspend too much for either. As long as that’s the case, two more pieces are better than none.

One day before that
One day before that I’ll be signing off emails with "Words that end winter sorrow. Pitchers and catchers report tomorrow.

So you think Garza stays?

Crawford has a wrist injury that will keep him out a few months.
If Tigers want to use Young at DH they could pick up Byrd to play left.
MDavis - January 18, 2012
I agree, and am still hoping that an AL teams needs a right handed DH
and Fonzie gets a new home………..
Ihatethecards - January 18, 2012
But the Cubs would likely still be on the hook for a large portion of his salary
