Via tweet from the official Cubs twitter. He still gets a NRI invite to spring training. This should allow the Kerry Wood signing to become official.

I’m glad he’s still with Iowa. I hope they can do the same with Sonnanstine. Still don’t understand those two contracts.

I forgot Kerry hadn’t been added yet (the Cubs mlb website now shows the updated 40).
My first thought had been that this bit of paperwork might be a prelude to a signing (Cespedes?) or trade.
Of course, those could still happen… there’s still dead wood on that 40 man, though shockingly less than late last fall.

I wouldn’t think Soler would require a major league deal, but Cespedes might (or might not)… which would necessitate putting him on the 40 man.
