The Rickettsification of Wrigleyville has begun!

I saw that the other day when I was in the area.

I have no idea what they are doing there. Anyone?

A Starbucks that only serves Theo Epstein?
Necessary business expense.
Picture was taken Thursday

It may be hard to see in the photo, but what they’ve done so far is cut the curb and put in a new entryway. The original entryway is still there, just the other side of the McD’s sign.

I’m guessing this means there will be some kind of structure in that SE corner of the parking lot, and it’ll be big enough that they had to move the entryway further to the west, towards the alley.

Oh and they had to rip out a small tree to put that new entryway in, so for those of you keeping score at home...

…it’s Ricketts-1, Environment-0.

Hope they replace that tree elsewhere and/or add some green space to the finished product, whatever it ends up being.

Did Ricketts walk over with some lighter fliud and torch the tree?

If you’re going to beat the environment, beat it down good.

It was pretty funny, actually

They put a strap around the base of the trunk and then attached the other end to the drill/arm of one those hydraulic jackhammer machines that kinda looked like this:

The funny part was that they tried to pull the tree out by lifting the drill/arm part up. And every time they did that, the strap just slid up the trunk of the tree, ripping off bark but not really doing much else. I guess it didn’t occur to them that the trunk of a tree gets smaller the higher up you go…

Sounds like the Peter Principle at work
Hey, I resemble that remark.
There is quite a few waste dumpsters....

it seems that right now they are doing demo work. If someone is willing to take a few more pictures of the construction site I can give a better guess.

I'll see if I can run out there

sometime this week…

Any chance there is a building permit at the site?

It might state what will be built, in general.

good idea - I'll look for one next time I wander over

btw, I was just in the McDonalds and noticed that all the Cubs baseball memorabilia has been taken down from the walls. I asked the shift manager what was up and she hemmed and hawed for a moment, shrugged her shoulders and then said “I don’t know, maybe they’re going to paint the walls?”

Let’s recap. $20M outlay? Trees getting ripped up? New driveway being put in right next to an already perfectly good one? Cubs memorabilia no longer on display? Hmmm… I think there’s something far more sinister going on here…

C’mon boys – call up Worthington and let’s go investigate! We got ourselves a mystery here!

Cubs memorabilia no longer on display?

Probably repossessed by MLB for unauthorized use.
