You really can’t help but look. I do think this sometimes borders on a comic obsession though. I watched the video. I laughed. We need something to laugh at.
maybe Miami isn’t much of a baseball town….maybe they need a 3-ring circus to bring the population to the park. I say so what! Let them have their fun….Ozzie, Z, the cheerleaders, the big thing in the outfield….who knows, it might work. Hell, I’d go see it out of curiosity too. Just keep it in Miami.
The noise of the stadium pa, especially if it as over the top as the rest of what the Marlins are doing, not to mention kids and baseballs pounding off the glass will wreak havoc on whatever they put in there.
for example shooting fish in a barrel, its not the bullet that kills the fish, its the pressure that the shock wake creates, which is what likely will happen with the noise, the balls hitting the glass, and so on. I cant wait for Big Z to take a bat to the Fish Tank when he is ejected
sure, if they use your garden-variety wimpy tropical clown fish types that look all nice-n-purty
But stealing a page from the “paint-the-visiting-team’s-locker-room-pink” playbook, I hear…
the Marlins are going to put piranhas in that fish tank. Lots of piranhas.
And they’ll play the theme from “Jaws” every time the other team comes up to bat.
And the Marlin pitchers will be sure to let loose with a wild fast ball during warmups that thuds real close to that fish tank.
And when no one’s looking, the grounds crew will lay down a trail of water from the tank towards the other team’s on-deck circle making it look like a leak.
As a Marlins fan, I'm disappointed in how this looks.
I wanted the big fish thing to only be the tip of the iceberg and have the entire stadium be seizure inducing. They need to add a nightclub and pool like the Diamondbacks. Everything else looks plain.
Why are we so obsessed with this damn team?
San Diego Smooth Jazz Man - February 12, 2012
I'm not obsessed.
Are you?
It’s an interesting baseball story — a new stadium opening with wacky features. Why wouldn’t we want to talk about it?
Al Yellon - February 12, 2012
Sigh.
San Diego Smooth Jazz Man - February 12, 2012
I agree...it's all very strange the direction the organization is going and a bit interesting in a macabre sort of way.
cooliogirl47 - February 12, 2012
Sort of like rubber-necking a bad wreck
You really can’t help but look. I do think this sometimes borders on a comic obsession though. I watched the video. I laughed. We need something to laugh at.
cub in louies nest - February 12, 2012
Don't worry, we all love to talk Marlins baseball!
Dcr18 - February 12, 2012
Al you are still in denial of your Marlin love?
Cubbie-Tim - February 12, 2012
Does this answer your question?
Al Yellon - February 12, 2012
yes Al, you finally get it
Cubbie-Tim - February 12, 2012
Al needs a new avatar.
How about a fresh pose with a Marlins hat and t-shirt?
Dcr18 - February 12, 2012
No thank you.
Al Yellon - February 12, 2012
I guess you missed my sarcasm.
Al Yellon - February 12, 2012
actually i thought my sarcasm was well matched to yours
Cubbie-Tim - February 12, 2012
Actually, it was.
Al Yellon - February 12, 2012
o'tay
Cubbie-Tim - February 12, 2012
Loved one of the comments on the video site.
“Is that thing in center for real? It looks like Mardi Gras had sex with a Bollywood movie.”
Mapanator - February 13, 2012
Turn it blue/green
Dcr18 - February 12, 2012
What color do you get
when you mix aquamarine, teal, fuschia, and disco strobe light?
timh815 - February 12, 2012
Champagne?
Cubbie-Tim - February 12, 2012
Understated
in a Las Vegas Strip sort of way.
timh815 - February 12, 2012
Unless your definition of "obsessed" is different than my own, this blog and its owner are exactly obsessed with the Marlins.
dtpollitt - February 13, 2012
Judging from your avatar,
I’m guessing you’re obsessed with his alleged obsession.
katie casey - February 13, 2012
Now THAT is almost certainly true.
Al Yellon - February 13, 2012
...
ballhawk - February 13, 2012
My uncle in California
is an engineer and is responsible for the rotating mechanics of the centerpiece. That’s why it’s my avatar.
dtpollitt - February 14, 2012
Now, if this were true, your uncle could be an interesting interview.
I have trouble believing this, though.
Al Yellon - February 14, 2012
JUST KIDDING
I LOVE THE MARLINS
GO MARLINS IN 2012
dtpollitt - February 14, 2012
or that wold make SWL his uncle?
Cubbie-Tim - February 14, 2012
SRSLY?
daver - February 14, 2012
I bet he designs bridges
he’d like to sell me too.
katie casey - February 14, 2012
where in CA??
Hammer - February 14, 2012
In the spirit of full disclosure...
I’ve met the guy, he lives in LaJolla….he’s one of those artist types that talks to himself and does trigonometric problems for “fun”.
santoswoodenlegs - February 14, 2012
well at least LaJolla is nice
He probably showers too often to live in Venice
Hammer - February 14, 2012
there's a "tangential" experience joke in there somewhere...
ballhawk - February 14, 2012
That's circular reasoning, I think.
Al Yellon - February 14, 2012
You are incorrect.
I post things about the Marlins when they create news.
I post things about many other baseball teams when they create news.
The Marlins happen to have created quite a bit of news this offseason.
If you think it’s anything beyond that, you are just plain wrong.
Al Yellon - February 13, 2012
I am right.
dtpollitt - February 14, 2012
I am Spartacus
ballhawk - February 14, 2012
No, you're not.
Al Yellon - February 14, 2012
You are wrong about me being right. Because I am.
dtpollitt - February 14, 2012
No, you're wrong about being right, because you're wrong.
Al Yellon - February 14, 2012
You are right about you being wrong.
dtpollitt - February 14, 2012
I'm not wrong.
You are.
Al Yellon - February 15, 2012
Boys, if I have to stop this car and come back there, there's gonna be hell to pay...
ballhawk - February 15, 2012
there are 24 different "Hell to Pay" songs...
I like the T-Bone Burnett version
cooliogirl47 - February 15, 2012
I drink your milkshake.
dtpollitt - February 15, 2012
because they are the team to beat this year!
jesus christos - February 12, 2012
didnt they al ready win it all this coming season?
Cubbie-Tim - February 12, 2012
It's baseball. This is a baseball site, right?
wrigleyrocker12 - February 12, 2012
Thanks for fixing it!
An obsession? Naw, just a passing curiosity.
jpeters407 - February 12, 2012
That monstrosity in left-center...
…reminds me of the movie “District 9.” What the hell is it? Should we call in the military? Will it ever return to its home planet?
daver - February 12, 2012
Whoever plays CF for us
when we go to Miami, I feel bad for them.
I’m not sure I’d want to stand out there with that thing over my shoulder. Creepy.
Tat14 - February 12, 2012
i feel worse for the Catcher
the CF can turn his back to it, not Soto
Cubbie-Tim - February 12, 2012
Meh, not very realistic...
That promo shows a sold out stadium.
bdlugz - February 12, 2012
I noticed that too...
but then again, maybe that marlin home run fountain thing has the power to lure people to the park and into the stands.
brook - February 13, 2012
the way I see it is...
maybe Miami isn’t much of a baseball town….maybe they need a 3-ring circus to bring the population to the park. I say so what! Let them have their fun….Ozzie, Z, the cheerleaders, the big thing in the outfield….who knows, it might work. Hell, I’d go see it out of curiosity too. Just keep it in Miami.

GO MARLINS!
WORLD SERIES 2012!
OZZIE!
BIG Z!

WOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO
jesus christos - February 12, 2012

Cubbie-Tim - February 12, 2012
Come on guys...this is amazing...
part of the wall is a FISH TANK. 2012 is going to be great!
santoswoodenlegs - February 12, 2012
I KNOW
what the hell???
monkeybiz - February 13, 2012
Other than the dolphin thing
it looks like a nice park. the fish tank behind home plate is pretty amazing.
tomas21 - February 12, 2012
The fish will die due to stress.
The noise of the stadium pa, especially if it as over the top as the rest of what the Marlins are doing, not to mention kids and baseballs pounding off the glass will wreak havoc on whatever they put in there.
jpeters407 - February 12, 2012
well
that’s a downside
tomas21 - February 12, 2012
Only if you are a fish!
jpeters407 - February 12, 2012
does that mean PETA will be outside picketing?
if so, I cannot wait to see Ozzie and PETA have a face off
Cubbie-Tim - February 12, 2012
They've already put in their 2 cents
Wanting fake fish. I can’t say I blame them, that is not a very friendly environment for fish to be living in.

madcow256 - February 13, 2012
the fish could be dead quite quickly
for example shooting fish in a barrel, its not the bullet that kills the fish, its the pressure that the shock wake creates, which is what likely will happen with the noise, the balls hitting the glass, and so on. I cant wait for Big Z to take a bat to the Fish Tank when he is ejected
Cubbie-Tim - February 13, 2012
Now THAT would be worth watching.
Cubs play the Marlins in Miami April 17-18-19. We won’t have to wait too long, possibly, to find out.
Al Yellon - February 14, 2012
sure, if they use your garden-variety wimpy tropical clown fish types that look all nice-n-purty
But stealing a page from the “paint-the-visiting-team’s-locker-room-pink” playbook, I hear…
ballhawk - February 14, 2012
They could feed the piranhas...
…all of the leftover, unsold hot dogs. That would be worth staying past the 27th out to see.
daver - February 14, 2012
So if there is a pass ball
it’ll smash against the aquarium disturbing the fish?? Cue PETA in…..3…2…
Hammer - February 13, 2012
